The gateway performs two main functions: it retransmits all the trader's transactions (order submission, withdrawal, etc.) to the MICEX Trading System and processes the user requests for trading information update (securities, orderbook, orders, trades, etc.).

In the basic configuration clients connect to the gateway located at the MICEX Trading Center. However, to improve the quality of services it is possible to purchase the local installation of the Gateway.

User requests are processed by the gateway with no need to send queries to the MICEX Trading System. This is explained by the use of the effective data replication model: the gateway server accumulates all the trading information and rapidly sends it to the users on request.

MICEX has performed a survey of some traditional broker systems and their connection architecture and received the following average results:

- Incoming traffic to the gateway from the Trading System - 10-15 MB per day.
- Incoming traffic to the each broker system - 200-270 MB per day.
- Incoming traffic to the each trader's terminal - 150 MB per day.

Local installation of the Gateway brings the following benefits:

• Faster trading information update on the trade terminal, because all the information is accumulated in the user local network, so there is no need to query the MICEX Trading System.
• The number of connected trade terminals is no-longer limited by the bandwidth of a channel to the MICEX Trading System.
• Sole use of the gateway (as opposed to the shared use with other traders when the MICEX Trading Center's gateway is used).
• Significant saving of traffic to/from the MICEX Trading System.
• Opportunity to set up a hot channel backup, when the gateway is connected to the MICEX Trading System via two channels: main and backup. If the main channel fails then the gateway automatically and seamlessly switches to the backup channel.
