The MICEX started auctions and secondary trading in OFZ-PK).
Trading started in the internal currency loan bonds (OVVZ) in the MICEX trading and depository system.
August
The acute liquidity crisis in Moscow interbank credit market raised the attractiveness of GKO-OFZ.
September
The MICEX implemented the system of technological support for the management of clients' sub-depositories by dealers.
October
Trading in the British pound started on the MICEX.
The regional trading floor in Novosibirsk connected to the MICEX trading and depository system. The first inter-regional exchange trading in GKO-OFZ in the organized securities market was held on the Siberian Interbank Currency Exchange.

The MICEX began to prepare trading in precious metals ("gold fixing").
The St.Petersburg Currency Exchange connected to the MICEX.
