March
Information trading in the internal state currency loan bonds (OVVZ) started on the MICEX.
The MICEX launched the universal trading and depository complex of the new generation, created in cooperation with FMSC Ltd. (Australia), CMA (Sweden) and Hewlett Packard (the USA).
April
The Derivatives Market Section was established on the MICEX, which began to prepare trading in futures and options.
May
Trading in the Byelorussian ruble started on the MICEX.
July
Remote workplaces began to connect to the MICEX trading and depository system to participate in trading in GKO.
October
Due to the deteriorated situation in the Russian currency market, the MICEX took measures to increase the reliability of exchange trading in foreign currency.
December
Trading in the French franc started on the MICEX.
