February
Regular trading in the German mark started on the MICEX.
May
The MICEX started auctions and secondary trading in government short-term non-coupon bonds (GKO), issued by the RF Finance Ministry.
June
Trading in the Ukrainian karbovanets started on the MICEX.
November
The MICEX and regional currency exchanges established the Association of Russian Currency Exchanges and began to organize inter-regional exchange trading in GKO (EFIR project).
December
Trading in the Kazakhstan tenge started on the MICEX.
