On December 10, 2009 OJSC Human Stem Cells Institute (HSCI) placed 15 million ordinary shares (20% of increased charter capital) in the Innovation and Growth Companies (IGC) sector of MICEX. Offering price – in the price range determined by the issuer (9.5 rubles per share).
HSCI was the first biotech in Russia to go public. HSCI’s IPO opened trading on
the IIM MICEX (Innovation & Investment Market) – a new exchange sector created through the cooperation agreement between MICEX Group and ROSNANO.

As of now, after finalization of the clinical trials, HSCI will be ready to submit for registration of Neovasculgen – the first Russian gene-therapy drug to treat ischemia of the lower extremities. In addition, the Company is developing and filing for clinical trials of Gemacell – first cell-based medication to treat myocardial infarction and liver cirrhosis. In the end of December 2010 HSCI launched SPRS-therapy – service for personal regeneration of skin (individual skin regeneration based on technology of using autologous skin fibroblasts for skin defects treatment approved by Russian regulator – Roszdravnadzor).
The Сompany considers commercialization of its own products and technologies to be the main cash generator as the strong foundation for future growth and therefore a key driver of HSCI’s market capitalization and shareholder value increase.
HSCI started its business with the implementation of a successful project dealing with cellular processing and storage. Gemabank (www.gemabank.ru), a family cord blood stem cell bank operating from 2003, is now a strong business generating a stable cash-flow while maintaining market leadership.
To further enhance its market presence and diversify its business the Company is constantly expanding regionally and internationally. The HSCI group of companies includes affiliates and subsidiaries in Russia, Ukraine and Germany, with state-of-the-art cell cryopreservation equipment as well as innovative processing and scientific laboratories. To obtain synergy effects, HSCI owns a 50% stake in Hemafund, Ukraine’s largest family cord blood bank and a 44% stake in SymbioTec GmbH, a German biotech company involved in the development and marketing of innovative products for treatment of cancer and infectious deceases (based on Histone H1).
Having as a target the development of scientific areas HSCI is engaged in, the Company hosts the Annual International symposium “Current Issues of Cell-based Technologies” and publishes the Cellular Transplantology and Tissue Engineering scientific & analytical journal.
